Following our previous post featuring Sean Cole’s encouraging results over the first six months of 2018, it’s time to take a break and think about a well-deserved break!
How did you organize your holidays this summer?
69% of French plan to leave
This year, you will be 69% from June to September 1 , with a preference for August. This is a record since 2012 . But if the French are more likely to leave this year, they will take on average only 2 weeks of vacation, against 2.7 observed in 2016 2 . Stays with relatives (friends, family) also increased by 4 points compared to 2016 according to the 2018 Good Finance barometer. The barometer also highlights that for 55% of respondents, leaving would be a vital need!
Internet bookings are on the rise
The French are great travelers and the Internet seems to be their tool of choice. Indeed, you are 87% to have booked your stay online 3 . Whether through promotional sites or specialized sites, this figure is increasing compared to 2016 and 2017, showing that the Internet is definitely anchored in the habits of preparation of holidays.
Only a part of the French, especially seniors, is still turning to traditional travel agencies.
A budget well studied and rather controlled
Let’s come now to the question that annoys, that of the budget … Unsurprisingly, the budget for holidays in France is lower than that planned abroad. For all destinations combined, the average budget for 2 weeks per family amounts to 1993 € 2 . In general, holidaymakers save a few months to leave but up to 1 year for the least favored socio-professional categories. Be that as it may, each one foresees a margin to face the unforeseen and 42% of the French exceed even the budget initially fixed 3 .
